As
I entered the hotel bar at the start of the evening,
it was obvious from the buzz of conversation and
the peels of laughter that this was going to be
a very special night. Members were all very happy
after an excellent show, and seemed intent on
celebrating their successes or forgetting their
sorrows. Most guests had thrown away any inhibitions,
and dressed in suitable Flower Power costume.
Male and female were adorned with Flowers bangles
and beads. Many of the men had grown facial and
cranial hair over night, and both sexes found
resplendent hats. One or two were even accompanied
by their own private Gurus.
The
high spirits continued into the dining room and
were especially evident during the Best Costume
Parade, judged by Elaine Culf. One competitor
kept refused to be eliminated and had to be strong
shouldered out of the room by the eventual winner.
Neil Porter was agreed to have the best costume
and was given a prize donated by Wendy and John
McQuilkin.
The
meal was excellent and the usual silly games were
played with enthusiasm.
After eating the guests sang Happy Birthday to
Club Chairman Bob Semos who was celebrating a
significant birthday. Bob generously donated a
glass of bubbly to all present and the club provided
a birthday cake decorated with an image of one
of Bob's cats.
With
all the serious business completed members took
to the dance floor with energy. The disco was
superb and played all the Hippie favourites until
the wee small hours.
The
next morning the only question being asked was,
'What can we do next year that's even better'
I can only say Watch this space.
Thanks
to everyone who helped run and organise the evening,
Dennis for always being there, you're a star,
Jim for lending and ear when ever needed, Niki
for seeing to the Balloons, Angie for the sweeties,
Martin for selling all those raffle tickets ,Pat
for organising Bob's cake, and those of you who
donated prizes. Plus anyone I may have forgotten,
it was a fantastic team effort.
