SOME OF OUR
SAFE HOUSES

These cat houses were purchased second hand from a cattery in Scotland and situated in key areas across the UK this one arrived at the home of Shirley and David Talboys  in Warwickshire in January 1997

by that summer David Talboys had modified the house adding a heater as well as a Perspex roof to keep out the rain, quite a pretty place for a needy Birman isn't it?

A substantial space between chalets and a sneeze barrier, to avoid possible disease spreading. Fostering is not without risk and should never be undertaken lightly.

in Spring 2007 it was decided a larger brand new pen was needed for long term stays and pairs of Birmans in the Midlands area.  This original second hand pen still in fair condition, has been moved  from David and Shirley's home to that of Peter Chaffe and Dawn Dodds' in Nottingham. Peter has built a new run for it and although small, will come in handy for short stays and long trips as it is near junction 27 of the M1.  Here is our original pen over ten years on with its new run and roof.  The Rescue wastes nothing!

June 2007 and here is our newest safe house, it is situated at the home of Mark and Nicky Butler in the heart of Warwickshire.

In July the first 'patient' arrived, he will be staying for a while to build up his strength.  Guarded during the daytime by Mark and Nicky's Samoyed dog called Merlin!  Like our Swindon safe house, this is more suitable for longer stays, and can accommodate more than one Birman quite comfortably.

Finance for this pen has been largely funded by the generosity of members' donations, collected via the Membership Secretary throughout the 2006/07 club year.  It is intended a small plaque will be made to reflect this.

The new larger cat house situated In Scotland erected Autumn 1999

In Scotland Ivy Perry found these houses good, but not big enough when a sick cat needed long term care: she decided to set about raising money for a tailor made safe house, with larger doors and more room as often Birmans are re-homed in pairs.

In November 1999 it was finished the total cost around £1,000, over half the money raised by Scottish cat lovers the difference from the BCC Rescue Fund.

Two fortunate Birmans pictured here in the Avon area Safe House, in the care of Anne and Bob Sloggett.

Winter 2000 - another larger safe house was erected to spread the load, Anne often finding pairs of cats staying with her for 6 - 8 weeks, as their age and condition made finding the perfect home a little more difficult.

Spring 2001 sees the purchase of another safe house this time in Banbury, Oxford in the large garden of Jill and Stephen Bunce

This one was purchased brand new, and soon housed 2 cats a Birman and his feline companion for several weeks, while a suitable home was found.

Summer 2003 and safe houses still
being acquired.  This time in Scotland with the majority of the money raised once again by Ivy Perry and her hard working team.

Situated at, Blackford, Perthshire

September 2006 sees yet another safe house, situated further south in Swindon.  In the garden of
Pat Williams.   Pat's husband has helped with the finishing, pictured with the first pair of rescues.

This has proved to be extremely useful in this part of the UK.  A good design and well built.  Not all Birmans are loved and looked after, so it is nice to know this sort of accommodation is ready and waiting when the need arises.
