This year was much easier to plan the event, booking the Redgrave Amenities Hall in the village, and having a new kitchen plus all the equipment. We had the use of tables and chairs etc plus the field to use weather permitting. Ken and I visited the Hall the night before to deliver the Raffle prizes and equipment to get a good start for Sunday morning. Hughie and his son Ken Angela and Colin and his friend turned up at 10.00a.m to put the Marquees up, plus the tables and chairs. Down came the rain and soaked every one. Hot drinks were made available to warm every one up. My helpers arrived at various times laden with their goodies that they had cooked and supplied free of charge. We all got stuck in doing various jobs to set up the Buffet Table. Ken proceeded to make the fruit punch for the arrival of our guests at approx 12.30.p.m. But we also encountered some unexpected visitors. The Wasps arrived around the same time, and proceeded to drink the Punch! Ken asked Colin to sell raffle tickets with his baseball bat. Colin convinced everybody that they should buy vast quantities of raffle tickets to match the vast quantity of raffle prizes! The sun was shining by this time, the day was getting better and better. Lunch was served at 1.30.p.m. and a wonderful Buffet was enjoyed by all (having convinced the wasps to leave us some punch).
Anne Madden helped Joyce Price draw the winning tickets for the annual Birman Cat Club draw, and then all present were invited to inspect the wonderful items offered for sale on Pat Williams exhibition table (Pat actually raised £107.00 for the rescue and welfare) Thank you Pat well done! Michel Barron set up her table to sell her lovely home made ice cream! By this time people were pretty full, but they could not resist buying it, so Michel made a nice tidy sum of over £48.00 which again went to the rescue fund. By this time the afternoon was well advanced and Ken proceeded to the kitchen to packing up doggy bags for hungry travellers. As people said goodbye, Ken and his band of faithful helpers dismantled marquees removed the legs from the tables and packed everything onto the trailers (and thought) " please let it all be worth it"...
IT
WAS !! and on the counting up of the monies the
Grand sum of £730.30 net profit for the Welfare and Rescue had been raised.
Ken and I would like to thank all the Ladies and Gentlemen who attended,
helped and made the whole afternoon a success. Please don’t be offended if
your name has not appeared in the text, just accept THANKYOU, THANKYOU,
THANKYOU ALL.
